El dulce fruto en la cobarde mano
y casi puesto a la hambrienta boca,
de turbado lo suelta y no lo toca,
vencido de un temor bajo, villano,
Vandalio; y el Amor, fiero tirano,
que al alma asombra con sospecha loca,
mientras la vida deseando apoca,
la hambre crece y crece el temor vano.
En tanto, el caro fruto deseado
de la vista al pastor desaparece,
y ni comer se deja ni tocarse;
cuando con un suspiro apasionado
dijo: «Tal sea de aquél a quien se ofrece
un bien de que no sabe aprovecharse.»
