Del más subido ardor, del más precioso
olor de gloria y del más alto grado,
nació en mi alma el mal de su cuidado,
antes no, sino el bien de su reposo.
Mi mal nació de allí fiero y rabioso,
a mi bien sin igual, igual en grado;
razón en mi dolor se ha transformado,
y el dolor sin razón está quejoso.
¿A quién se dio jamás, pues, tal tormento?
¿Dónde se vio decir que un mal tan alto
venga envuelto en un bien que par no tiene?
Amor, gracias te doy por lo que siento:
razón sobra al dolor, y de ella falto,
teme el honroso mal que de ti viene.
