- CCXXVI - Al sepulcro de Diego de Esquivel

El despojo mortal yace aquí solo,
la beata alma es ya tornada al cielo,
del pastor Esquivel, que fue en el suelo
un émulo de Orfeo, un nuevo Apolo.
Rabiosa muerte de entre nos llevólo;
inmortal fama con piadoso celo
haga su virtud, tendido el vuelo,
se manifieste al uno y otro polo.
Mirad pues, ninfas, musas y pastores
no haya flor en Parnaso, ni Helicona
destile humor que el lauro os tenga verde.
Y pues fue en el cantar de sus amores
el que puso más alta sus corona,
Amor lo llore, que es el que más pierde.
