Atrevido Carbón, tan animoso
cuan falto de favor y de contento,
no se alabe Faetón de atrevimiento
pues fue el tuyo más alto y más famoso.

Aquél, guiando al sol, de temeroso
hizo a los temerarios escarmiento,
tú pensaste gozar sin fundamento
de un nuevo sol más claro y más hermoso.

¿Cuál seso hay que iguale a tu locura?
¿Qué esfuerzo llega al bien de aventurarte
si tuvieras más fuerza o más ventura?

Aunque siendo Carbón, ponerte en parte
tan cerca de aquel sol de hermosura,
ya es ventura llegar y no abrasarte.
