Deje el estilo ya la usada vena,
mude el suave en doloroso canto;
mudar conviene el llanto en mayor llanto
y pasar de una grande a mayor pena.

Muerto es el que hacer solía serena
la vida, y nuestra edad alegre tanto;
muerta es virtud, muerto es el vivir santo;
no viva puede haber ya cosa buena.

Eterno lamentar, lloroso verso,
lágrimas de dolor, oscuro luto
hagan al mundo fe de común daño.

Lloran, príncipe invicto, a quien adverso
hado cortó, en el dar de primer fruto,
el árbol más hermoso. ¡Ay, fiero engaño!
