De error en error, de daño en daño,
de una desdicha en otra desventura,
de un desvío en otra gran locura,
de un viejo engaño en otro viejo engaño,

de un grave mal en otro mal extraño,
de una necesidad a otra yactura,
me ha traído el Amor y mi ventura
a que huya mi propio desengaño.

Conozco que me ofende el pensamiento,
y sólo de pensar me pasmo y vivo;
en él hallo el descanso y el tormento.

¡Oh nuevo padecer extraño, esquivo,
que nacen de una causa el mal que siento
y el bien que me hace ir soberbio, altivo!
