Viendo Tirsi a Damón por Galatea
en un continuo llanto dolorido,
que con ansia mortal, cual nunca ha sido,
campos y montes sin parar rodea,

porque el alto poder de Amor se vea,
como levanta un pastoral sentido,
seis versos en un mármol ha esculpido
do pena y nombre de Damón se lea:

«Contra el poder del tiempo, señalado
quede este nombre y alto atrevimiento,
y permanezca aquí después que muera.

Damón, que, pastor siendo de ganado,
a poner se atrevió su pensamiento
donde por premio sola muerte espera».
