De la alta torre al mar Hero miraba,
al mar, que siempre más se embravecía,
y esperando a Leandro se temía
mas siempre con temerse le esperaba.

Cuando la tempestad ya le acababa
de su vida la lumbre, y de su guía,
y el cuerpo sin el alma a dar venía
do el alma con el cuerpo deseaba,

en esto la triste Hero, esclareciendo,
vio muerto a su Leandro en la ribera
del viento y de las ondas arrojado,

y dejóse venir sobre él, diciendo:
«Alma, pues otro bien ya no se espera,
éste al menos te será otorgado».
